Reading Program

Parents- Just  a few reminders about our school reading program, "Reading Saves The Day."  Reading slips must be turned in each Friday.  Students need to turn in their reading logs in order to go to Jefferson County Park in November for hot dogs and s'mores.  Each week that a child returns a slip, they are given a small reward from the school.  This Friday, students received mini flying heroes.  Please read with your child 10-15 minutes each night.  Thanks to all the parents who have helped their child return their slips!  So far we have read over 1400 minutes in kindergarten.  Way to Go!!!!

What We Are Working On!!

We have been working on the letters S, M, T, and R.  Each child is expected to be able to identify each letter, produce it's sound and write the uppercase and lowercase letter for each one.  We have been working on reading the hi- frequency words: my, see, I.  In small groups, we have been building sentences and working with sentence structure.  Our goal is to make students aware that sentences begin with capitol letters, end with a period and that we read left to right.
In Math, we are working on patterns, beginning story problems, and learning about numbers 1-20.  We are counting our way to 100 days of Kindergarten!  We will have a party to celebrate that day.
Things you can do to help your child:
1. Read  every night to your child.
2. Have your child read to you.
3.Practice writing numbers.
4. Practice writing and reading color words.
5. Recite Nursery Rhymes.

Things coming up:
Reading Program had begun! Please return your slip.

Spiders

We have been studying spiders.  We learned that spiders are not insects but are from the arachnid family.  Spiders have two body parts and eight legs.  Most have eight eyes but they can have six, four or two eyes, too.  Spiders have venom which is poison.  We also learned that daddylonglegs are not spiders at all.  Some spiders spin webs made out of silk.  However, some do not spin webs at all.  Webs are useful for catching insects for food.

Field Trip

We are going to Atwood's Pumpkin Patch Farm on Tuesday October 19th.  Please dress your child accordingly.   We will go no matter what the weather conditions.  Also, please send a small sack for your child to carry their pumpkin in.
